International Transfer Credit Evaluation

International Transfer Credit Evaluation

Prospective students who wish to submit college-level academic coursework completed outside of the U.S. for transfer credit consideration must have their transcripts evaluated by an educational credential evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES®), the Association of International Credentials Evaluators (AICES®), or the Credentials Evaluation Service of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS). Students who have previously had their transcripts evaluated by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers’ (AACRAO) International Education Services may also submit their evaluations for review, however, AACRAO is no longer performing any new evaluations.

Within the United States, no government agency monitors the establishment of foreign credential evaluation services. Therefore, WGU utilizes private educational credential evaluation services such as NACES® and AICES®.

NACES® is committed to formulating and maintaining ethical standards in the field of foreign educational evaluation. NACES® was founded in 1987 by credential evaluation services dedicated to promoting excellence and committed to setting the standards for this profession. Evaluation reports prepared by NACES® members are judgments based on appropriate reference material, including current research. NACES® member organizations examine documents for accuracy and authenticity. Reports include information about the credential awarded and the U.S. equivalency. A current list of NACES® members is available online at National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

AICES® was created by international educational credential evaluation services as a nonprofit institution. The focus of AICES® is to translate foreign transcripts in regard to U.S. equivalents. All members of AICES® uphold the same standards and ethics to help provide quality evaluations pertaining to U.S. requirements.

Nursing Program Applicants

Nursing program applicants may only use the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS international) as the evaluation service for nursing program transfer credit and degree equivalency evaluation. Applicants must have official copies of evaluations sent directly to WGU from the CGFNS credential evaluation service.

The CGFNS International is an immigration-neutral, nonprofit organization, internationally recognized as an authority on credentials evaluation pertaining to the education, registration, and licensure of nurses and other healthcare professionals worldwide. The CGFNS International Credential Evaluation Services (CES) report analyzes the education and licensure earned outside of the United States by healthcare professionals (except physicians) and compares it to U.S. equivalencies. For more information about CGFNS visit Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) Professional Report®.
