The B.A. in Educational Studies and Science teaches you the content knowledge related to secondary school science. It does not include a supervised teaching practicum in a real classroom and therefore does not meet the requirements for initial teacher licensure. The program is for individuals who, for various reasons, want the academic knowledge that relates to teaching science at the middle and/or high school level but who cannot or do not want to participate in a supervised real classroom practicum.
(The B.A. in Science, which
includes the practicum, is the normal program for those seeking licensure.)

The program consists of seven to eight domains of knowledge including WGU competency
assessments and mentoring. The seven to eight domains of study are:

Most students who already have an Associate of Arts or its equivalent can complete their degree
in 2 to 2 ½ years. Students with little or no prior college experience can complete their

Becoming a Certified Teacher

This program is not designed to prepare students for initial certification in
any U.S. state because it does not include the in-classroom teaching practicum that is
required for regular certification. Other
initial
licensure programs at WGU are better suited for most individuals who want to become
licensed K-12 teachers. This program is for individuals who, for various reasons, want to
acquire academic knowledge related to elementary level teaching, but do not want an
