| Demonstration Teaching |
Demonstration teaching is a critical component of any teaching program because in-the-classroom
experience is the only way to integrate the academic knowledge and teaching skills developed
to that point. Your demonstration teaching prepares you to tackle the challenges of your own
classroom effectively and with confidence.
The Demonstration Teaching (DT) Domain at WGU covers the competencies required for in-classroom
proficiency. DT is normally a full-time, supervised, in-classroom experience of 12-18 weeks.
The exact details of your DT will be determined by the school district in which you are placed
to teach.
Demonstration teaching includes supervision by a host teacher and a series of classroom
performance observations to document data about your actual in-classroom skills. Also, a Clinical
Supervisor (an experienced educator) will observe you in a series of six weekly observations, complete the midterm and final evaluations, and evaluate your demonstration teaching performance based on accepted professional standards.
In order to satisfactorily complete the Demonstration Teaching (DT) domain at WGU, you must be a valid U.S. resident
currently residing in the United States. This is a requirement for placement within school districts.
Exceptions are allowed only for Department of Defense-sponsored active military personnel stationed overseas.
