Advice for Passing IT Certification Tests
Becoming IT-certified is not necessarily required once you have earned your IT degree, but it can certainly go a long way towards helping you have a successful career in information technology. There are a variety of IT certification tests available, and you'll want to find the one that most closely aligns with your chosen career path. Once you've signed up for the certification that's right for you, it's time to study:
1. Practice your multiple-choice skills.
Although some certifications involved performance-based testing, in general, many still rely on the multiple-choice format. If you've never been a strong test-taker, you'll want to spend some time focusing on the skills necessary to take an exam well, in addition to reviewing the material that will be covered. When taking a multiple choice test, read each question carefully, eliminate the answers you know to be false, and choose the best option from what is remaining.
2. Try a few sample exams.
The best way to prepare for an exam is to practice, and many IT certifications offer sample tests online, either for free or a small fee. Take advantage of these resources! You'll not only get a feel for what taking the exam will be like, but you'll also get a sneak peek at the type of material that is likely to be covered.
3. Connect with IT professionals.
While studying is certainly helpful, IT professionals who have already gone through the certification process are invaluable resources. If you don't know anyone with a career in information technology, ask one of your instructors for a bit of test-taking advice. It may turn out they are as helpful as any studying you do.
