Verna J. Lowe, Ed.D.

Associate Dean and Academic Director of Initial Licensure Programs

Dr. Verna Lowe joined Western Governors University in 2016 as Senior Manager of Academic Engagement and Compliance for Educator Preparation before assuming the role of Associate Dean and Academic Director of Initial Licensure programs. In this current role, Verna leads the work for educator preparation programs in Elementary, Special Education, Math and Science Middle, Secondary Math, Science, and English areas. Prior to joining WGU, Verna held numerous leadership positions in higher education, including Vice President for Compliance and Assistant to the President of University of the Cumberlands, Dean of Eastern Kentucky University’s College of Education, and Dean of Asbury University’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies. Early in her career, Verna taught students with learning disabilities, served as a school psychologist, and developed and modeled a support program for students with learning disabilities (SPSLD) for higher education. She has served on the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education board of directors and on the former NCATE Accreditation Board and CAEP Accreditation Council. Verna is author and co-author for professional publications and journals such as Journal of Education for Teaching and Kentucky Journal of Excellence in College Teaching and Learning, and has been a highly acclaimed speaker, seminar presenter, panel member, and facilitator at prestigious professional conferences across the United States.
