Tennessee Night Owls Travel to Vegas for Commencement

Jul 30, 2018

Ten WGU Tennessee Night Owls made the trip to Las Vegas on June 2 to celebrate earning their degrees at the latest regional commencement ceremony. We caught up with three of them — Kevin Madondo, Denise Williams and Lindsey Stadterman — to find out why it was important for them to make the trip.

Kevin Madondo, originally from Zimbabwe but now residing in Nashville, studied healthcare management at WGU to “fill out the knowledge gaps that he had.” He attended graduation to “highlight that stage in his life.”

Denise Williams traveled from Nashville to attend the Las Vegas commencement to celebrate earning her master’s degree in accounting. She turned her graduation into a family trip and was able to explore the city and visit various tourist attractions, like the Hoover Dam. She attended graduation because “it was that final feeling of accomplishment for doing something that seemed impossible at times.”

Lindsey Stadterman also received her master’s degree in accounting from WGU Tennessee. The Mount Juliet resident attended graduation because she wanted her family — especially her son — to know how hard she had worked for this. “I wanted him to know what I had been doing, and I think he was proud of me!” she said.
