WGU Leaders Selected for NWCCU Fellowship

Lucas Kavlie, vice provost for accreditation and compliance, and Tyson Heath, director of credential integrity, have been selected for an 18-month fellowship with the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) beginning spring 2024.

The NWCCU Mission Fulfillment & Sustainability Fellowship supports Western Governors University’s mission to create pathways to opportunity for learners.

Over the next year and a half, the fellowship will give Kavlie and Heath opportunities to collaborate with regional and national leaders on topics including accreditation, quality assurance, data analysis, equity-mindedness, educational effectiveness, assessment and educational innovation.

“This fellowship will help us strengthen our programmatic outcomes assessment process along with direct support from peer institutions across the Northwest,” said Kavlie.

As a leader in higher education, WGU maintains an acute focus on student outcomes. Working closely with other organizations that share this mission is a key area of focus.

"Having served as an accreditation peer reviewer for several years, I’m honored to be selected as a fellow and look forward to expanding my learning from other institutions,” said Heath. “Additionally, I look forward to driving value and impact by applying what I’ve learned within the academic organization to advance our practices and ensure we are responsive to advancing student learning and achievement."

Kavlie shared a similar sentiment. “Being chosen as one of only a handful of fellows is a highlight of my career,” he said. “This fellowship will help us better tell our university’s stories of success.”

WGU is proud to work alongside organizations and accrediting bodies driven to advance equity and attainment for all students.
