WGU Receives SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award

The virtual student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) at Western Governors University has been awarded the SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award, which recognizes student chapters for outstanding achievements.

“This award recognizes outstanding achievements in Student Chapter operations and a commitment to providing meaningful programs and services to members and HR students,” said Nancy Woolever, vice president of Academic, Certification and Student Communities with SHRM. “It also is recognition of the WGU SHRM Virtual Student Chapter’s continued growth and development as a future business leader, capable of developing strategies that lead to business success. We are immensely proud of this chapter’s success and thankful for the group’s continued partnership with SHRM.”

The SHRM Virtual Student Chapter within the WGU School of Business has 800 student members and hosts many events each year, ranging from an event to help students prepare for the SHRM-CP (certified professional) exam to an event about the impact of artificial intelligence and tech tools on the HR profession.

“It is an honor for the SHRM Virtual Student Chapter to receive the SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award as SHRM is the world’s largest human resources association dedicated to creating better workplaces that work for all,” said Sean Wall-Carty, WGU School of Business instructor and adviser for the WGU SHRM Virtual Student Chapter. “This award inspires its members and advisers to build on our organization’s success to better serve our students.”

The WGU School of Business offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Human Resource Management, which academically align with SHRM's recommended minimum standards, integrating the HR components that are most relevant for new human resource professionals.
