Shape the Future of Education with the M.Ed. in Education Technology and Instructional Design from WGU

Instructional design expertise is in high demand by employers across all sectors, including K–12 education, corporate training, medical, IT, business, government, and military. WGU’s new Master of Education in Education Technology and Instructional Design program addresses shortages in this rapidly expanding field. Gain updated skills that capitalize on your expertise and teach you to create immersive and engaging educational experiences both in and out of the traditional classroom.

This new degree program replaces our current M.Ed. Instructional Design and M.Ed. Learning and Technology programs and emphasizes holistic learning experience design in the higher education and workforce development sectors. You do not need a teaching license to enroll in this program.

Students may choose from two pathways or complete both if desired:

  • Adult Learning Designer—Focused on designing successful learning for adults in the workplace.
  • K–12 Learning Designer—Teaching ways to enhance student classroom performance.

To create a holistic learning experience, this degree combines:

  • Design thinking
  • Gaming design
  • Cognitive psychology
  • Experiential learning
  • User experience (UX)
  • Graphic design
  • Instructional design

Named #1 among all U.S. colleges and universities for both quality and value by the National Council on Teacher Quality, WGU’s Teachers College programs are highly respected by school districts and businesses across the nation. At WGU, you can complete courses as quickly as you master the required material. No waiting for a new semester to start your next class. Take tests whenever you’re ready. This means you move at your own pace, potentially earning your degree even faster. There’s no better time to become a leader in learning experience design.
