Texas Teachers: WGU Texas Appreciates You

AUSTIN — As Texas celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week and the school year winds down, non-profit WGU Texas is offering scholarships to current and aspiring teachers seeking a bachelor’s or master’s degree in education. The competency-based online university is also waiving the $65 application fee for prospective students who apply to WGU Texas’ Teachers College degree program by June 30.

“Texas teachers are the real heroes in our local communities, and we’re paying tribute to teachers’ tireless dedication to their students and to advancing their professional careers with our WGU Texas Teacher Appreciation Scholarship campaign,” said WGU Texas Chancellor Veronica Vargas Stidvent.

Each WGU Texas Teacher Appreciation Scholarship is valued at up to $2,000—$500 per six-month term for up to four terms. New and enrolling students can apply for these scholarships now through June 30 at texas.wgu.edu/goteach. To be eligible, scholarship applicants must be officially admitted to WGU Texas, complete the scholarship application, and be interviewed by a WGU Texas scholarship counselor.

Recipients will be selected based on their academic records, financial need, and readiness for online study at WGU Texas, among other considerations. WGU Texas will also waive the $65 application fee for all scholarship applicants who apply by the scholarship deadline, just use the code: GOTEACH.

“I’m able to apply what I learned in my courses at WGU Texas in my lesson plans for my third-grade students,” said Shayla Fortenberry of Lubbock, B.A. Interdisciplinary Studies and M.Ed. Instructional Design. “WGU Texas’ flexible model is perfect for military families. I was able to earn my bachelor’s and master’s degree while working full-time and raising our infant son. I’m thankful for all of the lessons I learned at WGU Texas that help me in my career.”

WGU Texas’ competency-based learning model allows students to study at times that work for their schedule, moving quickly through what they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn. This allows many students to accelerate their studies, finishing faster, which saves time and money.
