WGU Texas Presents $2,000 Sage Scholarship to University Health System NICU Management Analyst
Online, non-profit university surprised Ariel De Robles at work
SAN ANTONIO — Ariel De Robles began her career at University Health System in 2013 as a dietary technician in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Her exceptional organizational skills, optimistic attitude and ability to manage stressful situations yielded two promotions in a short period of time — and a completed bachelor’s degree along the way. In her current role as Management Analyst for the NICU, De Robles has developed a passion for enhancing patient care and employee satisfaction through quality improvement projects.
To continue strengthening her abilities in quality management and advance her career as a project leader, De Robles decided to pursue an MBA in Healthcare Management from WGU Texas. On May 16, representatives from WGU Texas surprised her with a $2,000 Sage Scholarship to help ease the cost of going back to school.
“The idea of achieving my master’s degree seemed far and almost unreachable because of the financial burden that was associated with it,” De Robles said. “But, as one of my heroes Walt Disney said, ‘All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.’ With WGU’s affordable tuition and with the honor of being chosen as a Sage Scholarship recipient, I am proud to say that I will be pursing my master’s wholeheartedly.”
“Ariel is an exceptional employee who is dedicated and driven to always do her very best, and I thank WGU for creating this opportunity for her and other University Health System employees,” said Rachel Rivas, Executive Director of Newborn/Neonatal ICU services at University Health System, and De Robles manager. “Scholarships like this are a tremendous help to the hardworking employees at our hospital who want to open more doors for themselves in the future.”
WGU Texas’ competency-based learning model is ideal for adult learners who want to continue pursuing their education because it accommodates different learning styles, time constraints and a wide range of existing knowledge and skills. Rather than enrolling in semester-long courses with fixed schedules, students can advance through courses at their own pace. Students who devote additional time to their studies can often accelerate through their programs, saving both time and money. To ensure successful academic and professional outcomes, WGU Texas faculty provides quality one-on-one instruction, and each student is assigned a program mentor, who offers guidance and support throughout his or her academic journey.
University Health System (UHC) is WGU Texas educational partner institution. Employees are eligible for tuition discounts and the WGU Texas Healthcare Partners Scholarship. UHC is a nationally recognized teaching hospital and network of outpatient healthcare centers, owned by the people of Bexar County. In partnership with UT Health San Antonio, it is consistently recognized as a leader in advanced treatment options, new technologies and clinical research.“Ariel is an exceptional employee who is dedicated and driven to always do her very best, and I thank WGU for creating this opportunity for her and other University Health System employees,” said Rachel Rivas, Executive Director of Newborn/Neonatal ICU services at University Health System, and De Robles manager. “Scholarships like this are a tremendous help to the hardworking employees at our hospital who want to open more doors for themselves in the future.”
