WGU North Carolina Offers Scholarships to Help Fill Cybersecurity Skills Gap
Deadline is Dec. 31 for scholarships valued at up to $5,000
Western Governors University has announced a new scholarship program to help fill the country’s critical shortage of cybersecurity professionals. The WGU Cybersecurity Scholarship, worth up to $5,000 per student, launched the first week in October in recognition of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
New WGU students enrolling in the B.S. Cybersecurity and Information Assurance or M.S. Cybersecurity and Information Assurance program are eligible to apply for the scholarship through Dec. 31, 2019.
“LinkedIn lists more than 1,100 cybersecurity job openings in North Carolina, and that doesn’t include unadvertised openings,” said WGU North Carolina Chancellor Catherine Truitt. “There just aren’t enough qualified local candidates to fill these openings, which is why cybersecurity scholarships like this one are important to help fill that skills gap and ensure data security across the state.”
