WGU Indiana Announces More than $100K in New Scholarship Dollars

The online, nonprofit university opens third-annual Public Service Recognition Scholarship, launches 10th Anniversary Scholarship, and more.

INDIANAPOLIS — As WGU Indiana continues its quest to award more than $1M in scholarships in 2020, after a record year in 2019, the online, nonprofit university recently announced the return of its annual Public Service Recognition Scholarship. Available to State of Indiana employees, the Public Service Recognition Scholarship offers $10,000 in scholarships in celebration of Public Service Recognition Week (May 3-9) and to honor WGU Indiana’s commitment to the development of the state’s workforce. 

The Public Service Recognition Scholarship will extend four scholarships worth $2,500 each that are eligible toward any of WGU Indiana’s 60 online degree programs. Applications open May 4, and the deadline to apply is Oct. 31, 2020.

In March, WGU Indiana launched its 10th Anniversary Scholarship, which added $100,000 in scholarships. The scholarship will award 10 newly enrolled students each $10,000. Recipients will be awarded $2,500 toward their WGU Indiana tuition each six-month term, for up to four terms. Applications are open and scholarships will be awarded on a rolling basis in 2020. Deadline to apply is Nov. 1, 2020.

In support of continuing education and advancing workforce development during the COVID-19 pandemic, WGU Indiana launched its Bright Future Scholarship, focusing on helping individuals struggling with the  impact of COVID-19 and considering higher education as part of their personal recovery plans. This needs-based scholarship is for new students who can show evidence of loss of income. It offers a total of $3,000, with $1,500 for the first term and $500 per term for three subsequent terms. Applications are now open.

“We are committed to making higher education affordable and accessible to all, and our breadth of scholarship offerings help us make earning a quality degree possible for more Hoosiers,” said WGU Indiana Chancellor Alison Bell. “At a time when education is evolving more than ever, we are proud to add more opportunities for financial support and workforce development.”

Through the generosity of numerous corporations and foundations, plus special federal government appropriations, WGU Indiana maintains a robust program of scholarships made available to qualified students. In 2019, WGU Indiana awarded 473 scholarships totaling $911,713. Since its inception, WGU Indiana has awarded more than $5 million in scholarships.
