WGU Indiana Ranked #1 Online School by Military Friendly

WGU Earns 2022-2023 Military Friendly® School Designation for 12th consecutive year

Mar 17, 2022

INDIANAPOLIS — Today, WGU Indiana announced that it is the recipient of the 2022-2023 Military Friendly® School designation for the 12th consecutive year. WGU Indiana is the Hoosier state’s only online, competency-based university and is ranked as the number one online school by the Military Friendly® School designation.

“WGU Indiana is dedicated to creating greater access to education for Indiana’s active-duty service members, veterans and their families, and we are proud to be recognized as a top Military Friendly® School,” said Alison Bell, WGU Indiana Chancellor and Regional Vice President at WGU. “We recognize the sacrifices made by those in the military, such as moving often, unique schedules and demanding work. By providing a pathway to education that is flexible and affordable, our goal is to help military students and their families achieve their goals of higher education and beyond.”

The 2022-2023 Military Friendly® School designation was awarded to institutions based on evaluations of public data and responses from a proprietary survey of more than 1,800 schools. 665 of those schools earned special awards for going above the standard. The full list of designated institutions will be published in the May and October issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and www.militaryfriendly.com.

Viqtory, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB) that connects the military community to civilian employment, educational and entrepreneurial opportunities, determined the methodology, criteria and weightings of this unique designation with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for Student Retention, Graduation, Job Placement, Loan Repayment, Persistence (Degree Advancement or Transfer) and Loan Default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

WGU Indiana also demonstrates its support for Indiana’s military families by offering numerous scholarship opportunities. In January of this year, WGU and The Woody Williams Foundation, a national organization that supports Gold Star Families, launched the Gold Star Family Scholarship to honor fallen service members by helping their surviving spouse and/or children pay for school. The Gold Star Family Scholarship is valued at up to $10,000, nearly the full cost of a WGU Indiana degree.
