When considering which path to select, please consider the following:
- Is there a chance you will be working in a public or community health nursing role in the state of California? These roles include but are not limited to:
- Public Health Nurse
- Home Health Nurse
- School Nurse
- Nurse Educator
- College Professor
- Immigration Clinic
- Community Outreach Clinic
- Are you in the military or a military spouse?
- Will you ever be teaching in an online university?
- Would you ever select a different career path in nursing due to personal demands or professional growth?
If you answered “YES” to any of these questions, please consider selecting the “CA PHN” path. This will provide you with the required 90 direct care hours to be eligible to apply for the CA PHN certificate after graduation.
Completing the extra hours may seem challenging to add to an ever-busy schedule. However, it can provide you with a deeper understanding of the nurse’s role in promoting health for communities. This may open opportunities for you in the future that you currently may not be considering.
