SALT LAKE CITY (October 30, 2024) — Western Governors University (WGU) School of Education announced two scholarships that will launch during American Education Week (Nov. 18-22, 2024): WGU Loves Teachers, and Become a Teacher scholarship programs, for current and future education professionals who wish to pursue bachelor’s or master’s degree programs.
“WGU knows that our school systems need passionate educators who represent the students and communities where they live, and these scholarships will help more people pursue their educational career goals,” said Stacey Ludwig Johnson, Ph.D., the senior vice president of WGU and executive dean of the School of Education. “These scholarships represent our commitment to supporting teachers and leaders who will shape the future of education, and who will have a lasting impact on students and communities for years to come.”
Each WGU Loves Teachers and Become a Teacher scholarship is valued up to $4,000 and designed to help current teachers improve their skill set in the classroom or move into administration. These scholarships also support future teachers in obtaining the required credentials to start a rewarding career as an educator.
The WGU School of Education has conferred degrees to more than 98,000 graduates across all 50 states, and has currently enrolled approximately 44,900 students. The School of Education’s licensure preparation programs are grounded in evidence-based practices and research, offer experiential learning with multiple opportunities for authentic learning in clinical and preclinical settings, and build exceptional knowledge of the art and science of teaching.
As a testament to the quality of WGU’s graduates entering the teacher pipeline, according to a 2023 Harris Poll Employer Study, 100% of 300 employers surveyed revealed that WGU graduates were prepared for their jobs. This study includes feedback about current teachers and education administrators who possess the skills that they need to make a positive impact in their fields and in the school districts where they work.
